zaLUG at Sandton City, June 2026
Great news for LEGO® fans in Gauteng as zaLUG (the South African LEGO User Group) returned to the Sandton City Shopping Centre for another exciting weekend of creativity, imagination, and brick-built fun on 27–28 June 2026.
Over 15,000 visitors joined us across the two-day event, making this one of zaLUG’s biggest Sandton City displays yet.
Now firmly becoming a highlight on the zaLUG calendar, members once again brought together a diverse collection of LEGO® displays featuring everything from nostalgic classics to large-scale centrepieces and highly detailed custom creations. Visitors of all ages stopped by to admire incredible builds, chat to builders, and discover just how far imagination can go with a pile of bricks.
One of the major attractions this year was the display of the iconic LEGO® Titanic set, which drew plenty of attention thanks to its sheer size and impressive level of detail. Visitors also enjoyed taking a trip down memory lane with classic themes from years gone by, including Aquanauts, bringing waves of nostalgia to long-time LEGO® fans while introducing younger visitors to themes they may never have seen before.
Fans of fantasy and adventure were treated to castle displays filled with medieval charm, while science-fiction lovers gathered around LEGO® Star Wars displays, including the infamous Death Star which quickly became a favourite photo destination. Car enthusiasts also had plenty to admire with a variety of speed-themed builds and functional models showcasing both engineering and creativity in action.
Of course, zaLUG’s talented builders also showcased a range of unique creations and artistic pieces, including stunning mosaics and custom displays that demonstrated the imagination and skill found within the local LEGO® community.
This year’s interactive activity proved to be an unexpected star of the weekend: the Easter Egg Hunt Challenge. Visitors embraced the challenge wholeheartedly as they searched displays for hidden eggs scattered throughout the display. While participants only needed to find ten eggs to qualify, many became determined to hunt down every egg hidden across the displays simply because the challenge became so much fun.
Children and adults alike could be seen carefully studying displays, comparing notes with family members, and excitedly pointing out new discoveries. The enthusiasm quickly turned the hunt into a mini adventure.
To top things off, four lucky winners were randomly selected from the completed entries and were thrilled to receive LEGO® hampers as prizes, ending the event with plenty of smiles and excitement.
Events like Sandton City continue to showcase not only incredible LEGO® creations but also the passion and community spirit behind them. Whether visitors came specifically for LEGO® or simply stumbled across the display while shopping, many stayed far longer than expected, captivated by the creativity, detail, and enthusiasm shared by the zaLUG community.
We would like to thank everyone who visited, participated in the Easter Egg Hunt Challenge, and spent time with us over the weekend. We look forward to seeing you all again at future events — because there is always another brick-built adventure waiting around the corner.
